This lovely handpainted sugar bowl was made by Meito Japan ( est 1908-see below background) and has a green stamp which dates this particular peiece circa 1908-21.
It is handpainted with raised gold painting.
It does have a small nibble in the lid of the bowl which is not seen when the lid is on the bowl.

The company was founded in Nagoya Japan. Meito in english is translated as Fine or excellent sword. This is thought to be nod to the city where a scared sword, part of the crown jewels, is housed in a shrine .
